Cindy Hoeper

Lakeshore Art Supplies and Framing

Cindy is the Owner of Lakeshore Art Supplies & Framing.

What is your favorite part of your job?
Cindy: The best part of what we do is fostering creativity. It's rewarding to introduce artists of all ages and stages to new mediums and materials that will keep them experimenting and expressing themselves.

Do you create art?
Cindy: I am not an artist myself, but I do collect art and have a strong appreciation for it.

Where on this planet have you been that you were the most impressed with the visual art?
Cindy: I am an avid traveler and have enjoyed visiting museums and galleries everywhere I've been. New York and Italy are two of my favorites, but I also think we have a number of incredible artists living and working right here in our own community.

What is very important to you in your business?
Cindy: Keeping our community connected to art is very important to us. By offering classes, demos and workshops, hosting art discussions and lectures, promoting local art events and displaying the work of area artists, we hope to build and maintain a strong, supportive relationship with our local art community.

Thank you Cindy - hope to see you in Chicago!

Meet the Namta Staff - Rick Munisteri

Director of Meetings at Namta and Art Materials World

All of us in the Namta office have known Rick Munisteri for over 18 years. We know his favorite art is in The Sistine Chapel and in Paris. We know he loves to travel to Italy, Peru, The Netherlands and Morocco. He loves his dog Sam (pictured). And we, along with his Facebook friends, know he loves to cook. Cooking is Rick's art. He makes very pretty food and a perfect cup of delicious office coffee. Here's a little bit more about Rick.

In Spring of 2002, Rick did some part time work for Namta. Later that Summer Namta had an opening and gave him a call for a permanent position. Since then, he's been, involved in various degrees, with the planning, details, and execution of 18 Art Materials World shows.

Those of you who have exhibited at Art Materials in the past have surely met Rick by now. If you are new to exhibiting with Namta, you'll have the pleasure of working with him for the first time in Chicago on the Thursday and Friday before the show while you're setting up your booth. He'll be running (literally) up and down the aisles with his cell phone. Rick rarely moves or talks at a slow pace.
We sometimes call him Rickity-Split. We think he probably got his talent for fast maneuvers on the show floor from a lifetime of experience of speeding through grocery store aisles and airports.

Rick tells us, "The favorite part of my job is watching the trade show come together and my early morning final walk through before opening."  He is excited that this year is Namta's 70th Anniversary, and how after his almost-20-years with Namta he still meets new exhibitors, with new products and ideas, becoming a part of the long tradition of the trade show. Rick's message to Namta Members is "take advantage of all that Namta has to offer and make sure that you participate in Art Materials World either as an exhibitor or as an attendee. It is the one time a year that the industry comes together to strengthen relationships and make new ones, see what's new in the industry and learn from each other."

When we asked about people who have influenced him in his life, Rick said, "Lou Reeves (former independent Rep and Namta Past President) taught me what the industry was all about, and my parents, they gave me the foundation and values to make me who I am."

You can contact Rick at [email protected] or 704-892-6244.

Thanks Rick, for all you do!

1922 - 2020

Lauretta (Laurie) Cappiello passed away on January 28th at her home in Palo Alto. Laurie was born in the Bronx, NY. With only a high school education and limited college vocational training in bookkeeping, she and her sister Ginny went on to run two very successful businesses. They sold their first shop and moved to Palo Alto, California in 1947, where they purchased an existing office supply business and began University Art Center. Struggling at first, Laurie held an accounting job in order to help pay bills and keep food on the table. Ginny got married and started her family while Laurie built the business. When Ginny returned to the business in the 1970’s, the two worked to build the business to 5 thriving locations.

Laurie and Ginny were admired as pioneers in the art materials industry. In 1977 Laurie became the first women elected to the Namta Board of Directors, and was a Namta Hall of Fame recipient in 1990. University Art and all of its people became Laurie’s love and family.

She loved traveling, the beach, photography, painting and gardening. She turned to homeopathy early in life after suffering from an illness that caused temporary paralysis. She was an early “juicer”, took daily supplements, exercised and did yoga. She never married and never had children, but became godmother to most of her nieces and nephews and adopted many stray humans and dogs that needed help or a home.

Laurie will be missed, and remembered as a very special person.

Art Advocacy - Art Matters

For a fourth-straight year, the administration has proposed to eliminate the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH), the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS), and the Corporation of Public Broadcasting (CPB).  Americans for the Arts is confident that Congress, as it has done in the past three fiscal years, will again reject this short-sighted budget request in a bipartisan, bicameral manner, and increase funding for these federal cultural agencies.

In the past three years, Congress not only dismissed these initial calls for termination, but in fact gave steady increases in funding to several of our nation’s cultural agencies.

What is Co-Insurance?
Co-insurance is a percentage of shared cost of a healthcare service split between the insurance carrier and the patient. Typically, one will pay co-insurance costs after the deductible is paid. For example, say you have already paid $2500 for medical expenses and met your deductible. Instead of paying all costs when you visit the doctor again, you will share the costs with your insurance carrier. Your plan may pay 75%, the other 25% is what you will pay out of pocket as your co-insurance. Generally, co-insurance plans with low monthly premiums have a higher co-insurance than plans with higher monthly premiums.
We hope this information has been helpful for a better understanding regarding the many facets of the healthcare industry. was launched with Namta members in mind and has created a one-of-a-kind marketplace for all your healthcare needs.
